SuiteAmerica participated in a half marathon on behalf of Move for Hunger, raising over $8,000.

This past Sunday, July 28th, SuiteAmerica participated in the San Francisco BioFreeze Half Marathon on behalf of Move for Hunger. Over 27,000 people competed in the event. SuiteAmerica was represented by Robin Masten, Michael James, Lauren Castle, and Patricia Knowles. Additionally, Julie Mammini and Kelly Cockrell assisted with planning and fundraising.

Robin, Lauren, and Patricia each walked 13.1 miles. Michael, SuiteAmerica’s Move for Hunger ambassador, says, “the team did a great job. They absolutely rocked it.” The half marathon team members raised over $8,000, including a SuiteAmerica donation of $4,000.

Michael and Lauren agree that one of the hardest parts was training. “Finding time to train in this heat,” Michael says, was a challenge. Lauren mentions that “it would have been impossible for [her] to finish if [she] hadn’t worked up to it consistently, walking every day.” Both Lauren and Patricia believe that the crowd’s energy was a huge help. “The encouragement and motivation from the crowd was amazing,” Lauren says.

Michael noted that his favorite part “was knowing that we were helping people simply by being there.” The group of SuiteAmericans agreed that helping Move for Hunger was the best part of the half marathon. The team “was exhausted but ecstatic” when they crossed the finish line. It was extremely “gratifying to know [they] were supporting Move for Hunger, so [they] helped feed people who are food insecure.”

SuiteAmerica is hoping to participate in another event next year on behalf of Move for Hunger. Patricia says she’d “love to get another team together” to race on behalf of Move for Hunger soon.
